It’s SCRABBLE + DECK BUILDING + CARD GAME

The idea is Scrabble / a word game / a spelling game … but you hold cards in your hand.

  • Each card has one or multiple letters.
  • But also powerups/special actions.
  • Depending on how you rotate/order the cards, different letters are used, but also different powerups show.

Each round, you’re constantly creating words and executing the actions you “created”. (But only if you spelled a valid word, of course.)

After doing so, you lose some letters, and take the rest back. I want to make this akin to a “deck building” game. You need to manage your vowels and consonants, so you can keep writing cool words the whole game.

I’d like players to also write words together. So there are 1-3 words on the table. On your turn, you can remove letters from the start/end of a shared word, and add letters to the start/end. If you formed a valid word that way, you execute that action.

Actions:

  • Destroy a card from your deck
  • Add new cards to your deck
  • Steal cards from another player
  • One letter of your word is allowed to be incorrect? (It becomes a joker?)
  • You may play this word across two turns. (Next turn, you must finish it in a valid way, or suffer some penalty.)

The name Keebble comes from my trio of language/Scrabble-inspired games called The Keebble Games. Not sure if this idea should be part of that. Alternative names are “Spelling Bee” => “Spelling Beast”, or “Letterspells”, or “Wordwizards”
