Thamuta

This is a trick-taking + Halli Galli game!

Setup

Fairly deal the deck among all players. They randomly take one half into their hand (“known”), and place one half facedown before them (“unknown pile”)

Pick anyone to be the start player.

Objective

The game ends as soon as somebody is out of cards. Your number of cards at that moment is your score. (Highest score wins!)

Gameplay

This is a “trick taking” game. Each trick (or “round”) works as follows.

Before the round starts, you may switch your hand and your pile. (That is, shuffle your current hand cards and make them your new unknown pile, and take your old pile into your hand.)
The start player plays a card. This can be known or unknown.
The type of that card now becomes the “wanted type”.
Now the other players take clockwise turns.
- If you have the wanted type in your hand, play one of those cards.
- If not, play your top unknown card.
When done, the player who played the highest card of the wanted type wins the trick! One of the cards played goes to the bottom of their pile. They become the new start player.

But! If, after playing an unknown card, any type has a combined total of 10 or more, a Thamuta happens!

Be the first to slam/tap the new card (that caused the Thamuta). The trick is over. All cards played so far go to the bottom of your pile, you become start player.

@IDEA: An ALTERNATIVE way to do this is to just say you keep playing (clockwise turns) until a Thamuta happens. Only THEN does the trick resolve.

The type that triggered the Thamuta becomes the wanted type?
Simply the highest number wins at that point?

Expansions

Special cards.

BLIND = You must play a blind card, even if you match types.
WATCH = If you can’t play a known card, don’t play anything at all.
TRUMP = The type shown is a trump. If played, the highest of that type wins (instead of the highest of the wanted type).
SEER = check / rearrange the top 5 cards of your unknown pile.
