My Multiverse

Each player receives (and/or builds) their own little “universe” before them.

Each player is also a pawn that travels between these worlds/universes. With two key rules:

  • You can only visit each world once.
  • The longer you stay in the world, the more it “leaks” something, and the fewer points you get.

The portals between worlds can only be closed once all players have visited. (In other words, you want to make your universe as friendly as possible to other players, so they visit early and you can stop the leak as soon as possible.)

Below is a rough version of the rules.

Setup

Each player draws 3 random universe tiles and 1 Portal tile. Arrange them before you however you wish. Place 10 Stardust on your Portal.

Each player picks a unique pawn and places it somewhere in their universe.

Objective

Once all players have visited all worlds, the game immediately ends. The player who has the most Stardust on their Portal tile wins!

Gameplay

On your turn, you always move 1 step.

  • Move to an adjacent tile in your current universe
  • Then execute the action of your new tile.

If your Portal is still open, remove 1 Stardust from it. (It “leaks” into other universes.)

If you’re not in your own universe, add 1 Stardust to your Home tile.

@IDEA: Or combine the two.

  • If your Portal is still open, move 1 Stardust from it to your Home.
  • When you jump to another universe, all Stardust from your Home tile returns to the Portal. It is, however, removed if you exceeded its threshold (some number on it, perhaps max 5 Stardust).

Tiles

Portal

This is the most crucial tile. When you step on it, you move to another universe.

  • Place your pawn on the portal of another world.
  • Remove all Stardust from your Home tile.
  • You can only visit each world once. (If you’ve already visited all worlds, you can’t visit the Portal tile.)

Once all players have visited your world, your Portal closes.

Home

This is the second must crucial tile. It builds up the longer you spend inside the same world.

Many actions are related to your current Home status.

  • For example, “You get 3 Stardust, minus what’s on your Home”
  • For example, “This turn, you may move as many steps as the number of Stardust on your Home”

@TODO: This might be too complicated. If possible, move this to an expansion / after your first game.

Verdict

Seems like a strong idea. I just need fun, unique, diverse tiles that could make up these universes.

  • Unique ways to score stardust, or some intermediate resource or advantage.
  • One big bonus should be to “add a new tile” (either to your own universe or the one you currently are) => the universes start tiny but should grow during the game.

This idea was obviously inspired by His Dark Materials.
