Gravestone Mafia

This game is basically Werewolf/Mafia, but Halloween-themed, and trying to solve its main issues.

  • Quicker nights with more specific things to do.
  • Which gives more concrete evidence about what happened.
  • And nobody is truly eliminated.
  • And the “leader” of the round simply plays along.

As such, I wanted to retheme it as a Halloween game at a graveyard.

You’re either dead ( = ghost/spirit) or not. This is your secret role/alliance, like in Werewolves.

One player has a special role that makes them play the game, but ALSO lead it.

Everyone has a few pawns before them, standing upright, which are gravestones. What they are and if they’re flipped is the whole deal.

  • Most of your actions are just changing your own stuff, which is easy to reach.
  • That “LEADER” role can help with anything else.

A large part of the game is about “digging up graves”, or “dead spirits coming to life”, by changing or investigating those gravestones.

  • Maybe you cycle through roles/flip back and forth as you are killed? To prevent elimination?
  • Maybe, if you “die” in the game, you place your personal token underneath the gravestone of another player. A large part of the game is about figuring out who is buried where!
  • Yeah, you can just throw a pawn ON TOP of another pawn to cover it. You might even bury multiple people in the same grave that way.

@IDEA: The leader changes? This is a power you can acquire?

A rules sketch below.

Setup

Give every player 3 gravestones (pawns standing up) and 3 Object Tiles (also pawns standing up).

Place the objects on the table, then put the gravestones over them (so nobody else can see what’s underneath).

Objective

Lala

Gameplay

The game works using DAY and NIGHT phases. You start at Night.

Night

Everyone closes their eyes and sleeps. Don’t try to stay active during the night (make noises, tickle others, etcetera). Nights should be swift and silent.

The Gravekeeper calls out the roles in the game, in order, one by one. These are written on the helpful aid card.

If you hear your role, you open your eyes and take your action. The Gravekeeper helps out here. Once done, it tells you to close your eyes again and calls up the next role.

Once all roles have done their thing, Day starts.

Day

During the day, everyone votes simultaneously. Whoever gets the most votes, picks one unrevealed Gravestone and takes it off (to reveal what’s underneath).
