You’re competing ice cream parlors on the beach, trying to serve tourists whatever their strange ice cream desires are.
Setup
Create a deck of Cone Tiles. Shuffle and deal each player one.
Also create a deck of Tourist Tiles. Draw 4 and place them faceup in a row.
Finally, create a deck of Scoop Tiles. Draw 10 and place them faceup on the table.
Objective
The game ends as soon as all tourists have been scored or have left. Each player sums the scores on their tourists: highest score wins!
Gameplay
Take clockwise turns until done.
On your turn, Scoop and then Score.
Scoop
Pick scoop tiles from the center of the table. You must follow one of these rules:
- Either pick all scoops of the same color.
- Or all scoops with the same icon.
Then place these scoops on top of an ice cream cone. You must place all scoops you have.
- These must be built like a pyramid (from bottom to top; complete one layer before starting another).
- Each ice cream can only have one group per color. (In other words, you can’t have two scoops of the same color that are disconnected.)
- If you place a scoop that matches symbol with a neighbor, you immediately stop placing scoops. (And can thus have some leftovers.)
You must place at least one scoop on one of your own cones. The others may also be placed on top of other player’s cones!
Any scoops you simply can’t place return to the center of the table.
Score
If you have the ice cream that a tourist wants, you may choose to score them.
- Discard the ice cream (cone and scoops)
- Place the tourist on your score pile. (Some also have immediate bonuses you get now.)
- And draw a new one from the deck.
If there are no Scoop Tiles left at the end of your turn, do a Refill.
Refill
Draw 10 new Scoop tiles and place them faceup on the table. All players also draw a new cone tile.
To make this more interesting
First of all, there are four cones: size 1, 2, 3 and 4. (With the 3 being most common, as it’s the most interesting.)
Scoops are placed on top like a pyramid. (For example, first row is 3, second row 2, top row 1.)
You can create patterns of matching scoops / sequences / symbols for bonus points.
Some scoops have two sides. (They’re split down the middle and show two colors. How you rotate them determines their use.)
Tourists might have other rewards besides points. (Draw an extra cone. Steal some scoops. Only this round, another tourist is 1 scoop cheaper.)
- Tourists generally want specific scoops (like 2xChocolate, 1xVanilla), and some scoops they surely do NOT want (like 1xStrawberry).
- They also have a cone preference. (Just show the 4 cones in order, but only highlight/make opaque the ones they want.)
- And sometimes a more specific preference. (No Chocolate next to Vanilla. No group that runs from top to bottom. The bottom layer can’t be filled with only scoops of the same type.)
Special actions:
- Only need to place 1 scoop.
- Only draw at most 2 scoops.
- May swap/replace/place a scoop in a hole (not a neat pyramid in order)
Notes / Verdict
Alternative names: Scoop Center, Ice Dream Beach
Should work GREAT.
Scoops might be actual circular tiles and cones triangle tiles. But also support square variants of these for easier cutting/more consistent deck dimensions.
