Kingly Game of Stur

A board game idea inspired by Royal Game of Ur.

You have a large circular playing board. (Several “rings” from outer to inner.)

Everyone starts in their own section/pie of that playing board, with a few pawns.

On your turn, you roll a die and move ONE piece that many spaces.

Your objective is to be the first to reach the finish line with ALL your pieces.

The catch? Every ring has different rules about movement/capturing other players.

  • Outer ring = safe, can’t capture
  • Then you get a “capture” ring. (If you move on top of another piece, it is removed from the board and has to restart at outer ring.)
  • Then you get a ring where movement is DOUBLED, or you simply SKIP used spaces.
  • Then you get a ring where rolling a specific number is instant death or something. (And you have to move exactly 1 piece on your turn, if you can, so that’s how it can hurt you.)
  • Etcetera

If a board with rings is too hard to do print-n-play, make it hexagons, or just a straight line, or something like that. The issue with “rings” is that they aren’t variable: you can’t say “for a faster game, only use 2” or “use any combination of 3 rings for random setup”
