What if a country figures out how to bring extinct species back?
More specifically: how to take DNA and create the living organism from it again.
What would they choose? In what order?
The only way to do this is probably slowly, as naturally as possible, which means it takes a lot of time and resources and is very risky. This probably dampens their speed, the species they can bring back, but it also gives rich/powerful people control and a status symbol (“look, I could pay to bring back a DINOSAUR”).
Maybe some old species are easy, so now we have an overabundance of them and they do too well in the current habitat. Other old species do even worse in the current habitat.
Making this a “science breakthrough” or “ingrained part of society” feels interesting for story.
