The game itself is a really basic sports game, just a simple thing like soccer or volleyball or whatever.
The point is that your team is made of robots.
All you can do is tell your robots how to play, like writing code. (“If ball there, do this. If tired, stand still. If ball within 500 pixels, run straight at it. Etcetera.”) You don’t play yourself in any way.
- This can actually lead to very interesting matches. (Without requiring complex user inputs or anything from the user really besides building their bots.)
- And depending on the bots the opponent is bringing out, you really need to change your strategy and change how your own bots are coded. (There are X “breaks” in the game. Each break you get 1 minute to rewrite your bots / put out different ones?)
RELATED IDEA: Can we do a Pokémon type thing, but with robots that are more “modular” or “buildable”? Instead of just some fixed monsters that you find naturally in the grass, you are actually finding monster parts (“subrobots” or “robot eggs”) that you can combine into your actual Pokémon-like squad? I don’t think this has been done before, but at the same time, finding parts and combining them into bigger “builds” is basically an entire genre of games so not sure if this actually adds anything new …
I think this has loads of potential. Could be very educational as you teach people how to program those bots. Could just be a fun party/competitive game where you pit your creative bots against friends or family. I decided to share the idea because I knew I would probably never make it myself because I chose to focus on other types of ideas.
