What'supmarine?

The idea is basically a simplified, less violent version of “Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime”.

  • A local coop game with players in the same submarine.
  • Side-view, underwater, 2D.
  • You have to move around inside to control different stations.

Gameplay

  • Either it’s randomly generated and you must survive as long as possible, upgrading as you go, losing lives permanently over time.
  • Or they’re fixed levels. The objective would be to “collect these types of fish” or “collect all 10 pieces of the treasure in this environment”

What are the different stations?

  • Steering => left, right, up, down
  • Radar/Chart => actually see what you know about the environment, vague crosses for where important locations/targets are, etcetera.
  • Light => turn it on/off to see what’s around you. (While on, it slurps more energy, which is why you’d sometimes keep it off. Also, it attracts more dangerous fish if on.)
  • Weapons => to catch or destroy threatening fish.
  • Processing => turns the material you have grabbed over time into oxygen/electricity.
  • Collection => (might be combined with weapons/tools) to actually grab stuff around you needed to complete the collective, or the single material you need for Processing.
    • This might be a minigame on its own, where you need to position the submarine perfectly and move the gripping arm to the right location.

Maybe upgrading and repairing stations also happens while playing. But if so, it should be exceedingly simple, as this is more of an “annoying recurring task” that you wouldn’t want to overpower the rest.

Different Theme?

@IDEA: Maybe this is easier as a HOT AIR BALLOON game?

  • In the sky it’s a bit easier to randomly generate stuff than underwater.
  • Also fewer stations and options, while the same ideas and themes apply just fine.
  • It’s obvious how such a thing moves and is limited, and how you’re clumped into a tiny space managing a few stations.
