Reverse Olympics

Basically, what if we do a sport but with the rules / roles reversed? Should give unique and silly gameplay and be easier to code than actually following a sport’s rules closely.

IDEA (reverse soccer): People are standing around the field. Randomly they’ll extend their legs, or move, or whatever. You move the ball! Move it so that the right team scores.

IDEA (reverse pong): the paddles move on their own. You control the ball. Keep it in play as long as possible.

Reverse volleyball => computer players are jumping and walking – you move the ball

Reverse athletics => move the hurdles to fit the jumps, move the pole to fit how high someone is jumping

But, to work well, we need some core rules:

  • You’re not just completely free to move the ball, as then you could just throw yourself into the goal and win easily.
  • Instead, you can only launch yourself, then re-launch when you’ve come to a standstill.
  • It’s vital to pick up powerups, or visit specific locations, or fulfill other quests during your travels. (To make up for the fact that it might be really hard to score. To give some other target.)
    • Could also be used for replayability => keep playing to accomplish quests
    • Quest Ideas: spent 50% of the game in the opponent’s half/possession
  • It might also be interesting if you could influence the players (and what they do/where they walk) in some way. Maybe there are buttons within the level to make a player jump, or run forward, or something.

As always, this could work very well with more thought put into it (and applied to lots of different sports), or it could be a silly idea that never goes anywhere.
