Broomball

A game inspired by Rocket League SideSwipe. But local multiplayer, simpler, more different modes, and a few twists.

  • Local multiplayer game
  • 1-8 players (?)
  • A form of Esport, but more like an accessible party game

Objective?

There’s a ball. There are goals on the sides of the screen. Score the ball in the opponent’s goal.

Map

It’s a 2D side-view. (This is easy to parse and actually optimal for local multiplayer, as no space is lost due to perspective.)

Goals are on the far left and right. (Although they could be anywhere, or there could be more than two.)

What’s the theme?

It’s basically Quidditch. You’re witches flying on broomsticks.

The goals are rings. There are several different balls.

  • Score ball. (Use it to score points. Does not damage or bump you if hit.)
  • Attack ball. (Doesn’t score points. But if it hits you, you absolutely fly away.)
  • Search ball. (Snitch; if grabbed, you get a load of points, or some powerup or something.)

These might appear at random during a game.

Also, different modes.

  • Basic = soccer
  • Volleyball
  • Basketball
  • Badminton
  • (Table) Tennis and similar

What’s the trick?

Players can run around, jump, cling to walls, dash, boost.

Some of these are limited. They only refill if you’re touching something.

(And maybe different things refill faster/slower.)

For example:

  • Touch ground/wall/ceiling to refill your boost/dash ability
  • Touch other players to refill something else
  • Touch your teammates or the ball to refill something else

Why would this work?

  • To hit the ball/defend you’ll often need to be in the air (or just not touching something)
  • But to be able to move as best as possible and be faster than the rest, you need to constantly touch something to refill your tanks.
